I decided to continue to experiment with photographing musical instruments at home and continued to explore techniques I had tried in the studio. I picked my electric guitar to photograph as it matched the dark and grungy aesthetic that I was hoping for, I also decided to add jewellery, specifically snake jewellery as in this project I am interested in developing work suited to Taylor Swift's album 'reputation' and the snake motif throughout it. For lighting, I have a pink neon sign which I used to create pink reflections and also add colour and depth to the photos, I also have fairy lights which I used in the background of some images and I think they turned out well. In the future, it would be helpful to get more professional lighting instead of using what I have, but it did work out okay. To shoot, I connected my camera to my phone so I could see exactly what I was shooting since I was also in the photos, I was also able to experiment with different setting from my phone and found that f5.3, shutter speed 1/6, ans ISO 1000 worked well for this shoot. I wanted a slow shutter speed to capture movement as I strummed on the guitar, and so using a tripod, I experimented from 1 second to 1/6 and found that 1 second captured too much movement and left it hard to tell what was in the image. The slow shutter speed also allowed me to continue to experiment with moving the camera during the shot and also zoom bursts, I think this is definitely something I want to carry through the project as it allows me to emphasise the movement and the musical aesthetic i'm going for. Overall, I think the biggest challenge was lighting, ensuring that it was well lit and exposed while simultaneously keeping it dark and moody, also avoiding reflections of the light on the guitars surface. For that, I just changed positions a few times and found a spot where I could see the light but not on it's surface. Next time, I think I could experiment with a wider range of shots and props, but for a first attempt at home, I think this went well.
