For this shoot I experimented shooting portraits in the studio with different lighting techniques including butterfly, Rembrandt, split, rim, and silhouette lighting. I also experimented with multiple exposures using a flash and also light trails. It was interesting to explore the different effects that lighting can create, such as accentuating different facial features and the impact that shadows have on appearance. It was very useful to learn about these different lighting techniques and put them into action in the studio to really see the differences and understand when to use each one for which finish I want to achieve and also using different ones for different face shapes and features. I found rim lighting to be the most difficult with the light being directly behind the model and so by moving it to the side, I still achieved a rim of light without the physical light being visible in the background. For these images I used ISO 1600, aperture f6.3, and shutter speed 1/50 which allowed me to work with the light and find a good exposure while also having a fast enough shutter speed to avoid camera shake.

Multiple exposures with a flash was interesting. I had never done that before and therefore allowed me to learn a new technique and experiment with different ways to photograph. Using a slow shutter speed of 3.5 seconds and a tripod, I flashed the light 3 times and asked the model to do 3 different poses to achieve that effect. We also then experimented with a longer shutter speed of 6 seconds and tried extra flashes and more poses which turned out well. In the beginning it was difficult to time the poses right to be simultaneous with the flash but after trying a few times it became easier.

Light trails was also an interesting experiment, using lights in the dark and a slow shutter speed of 3.5 seconds to capture motion. I found this to be difficult at first attempting to move the lights at a good speed to capture their movement but as I tried multiple times I found it to get easier and achieved some good results.
