I conducted this shoot to test out some different techniques and experiment with what i want to carry forward into my project vs what i don't. I experimented with using a tripod which allowed me to set it at a certain height and keep continuity throughout my images and achieve the child-like perspective, however, it did restrict what i was able to shoot as i couldn't simply point the camera, and i did miss a few shots that i think would've been good. I also experimented with the zoom burst technique which i found to be quite successful in creating a blurred and memory like effect - it distorted the trees and sunlight and to me the images feel more nostalgic and child-like in that way as they are not whole or completely focused in the way that a memory is often distorted and remembered slightly differently to real life. I do like the technique and the effect it creates and i want to carry on using it but definitely sparsely, i want to ensure i am also capturing focused and thought out images. Additionally, i used an orange filter to enhance the sunlight and create an orange glow in my photos, this is something i definitely want to carry on with as orange sunlight is heavily associated with nostalgia and i would say that it comes across in these photos, I also decided to print an old childhood photo onto acetate and hang it in frame for a narrative element in my photos however, i don't think this really worked as intended, it is hard to make out the printed image and it becomes a distraction. Moving forward i should find other ways of incorporating childhood objects to convey my narrative better. When i was not using the acetate i decided to put it in front of the lens - on its own and along with the filter - both of these times, the image came out very hazy and difficult to see and while i didn't expect anything else from doing this, i won't be carrying that on. Overall, there were a few challenges in this shoot due to the testing of techniques and different experiments, the sun was also very bright as i did this mid-afternoon so it was difficult to get a good exposure, however, it definitely helped me decide which techniques i want to carry on experimenting with and which didn't really work.
