Semiotics is the study of signs and symbols and how they create meaning. It explores how objects, images, words, and gestures can represent ideas beyond their literal and physical form/ appearance. For example, a heart may signify both the body, blood, and muscle, while also having connotations of love and strength. In photography, semiotics helps us as the viewer understand how meaning is constructed through what we see - the colours, compositions, and symbols that communicate ideas or emotions that are deeper than what meets the eye. By analysing these elements, we can interpret hidden messages and intentions behind a piece of work.

For this task, I have selected an image by Jell Wall that I thought held a lot of information and visuals to interpret, and I have looked deeper into the image looking at both his technical approach and what that can suggest, and also his props/ setting and what narrative we can construct from that.
